Terrible Tuesday

Image
This week started off like any other, until Tuesday. Tuesday morning, I was woken up to my boyfriend asking me, “Do you know your toilet’s clogged?” No, I did not know that. So here I am confused and barely awake, trying to figure out how the toilet clogged while everyone was sleeping. Emphasis on ‘confused’ especially because there was nothing in it to have clogged it, the water level had simply just risen. My roommate and I did not own a plunger because this hadn’t happened before, and frankly we didn’t think about buying one when we first moved in. I told my boyfriend to just let it sit because he and my roommate had class soon and I had to leave to go to my nail appointment. There wasn’t anything we could do at this time, so I planned to just stop after my appointment and pick up a plunger to fix it.             I then go to my nail appointment which is always a relaxing experience for me. I have a nail technician in Lima that I go to while I am away at school, a

ONU's Social Media Workshop

Image
On Friday, March 22, Ohio Northern University’s PRSSA hosted its annual Social Media Workshop. The day started with hearing from the keynote speaker before breaking to begin the first session of the workshop. The workshop was split into four blocks, with each session having two speakers presenting simultaneously – one speaker would be in the Activities Room while the other in the Bear Cave.              Amy Hertsenberg, the keynote speaker, gave what I found to be one of the most interesting presentations. She discussed all things AI – the powers of AI, how she uses it as a tool in her work, how we can use it, how it is changing the way we work, etc. Hertsenberg puts an emphasis on the idea of ‘hyper-personalization’ using AI technology throughout her presentation. This idea stems from the fact that AI has changed the way we gather information of a customer base. This information allows for a better understanding of customers and communication to customers such as 24/7

Post-Spring Break!

My morning view when I open the course                 Well, spring break was boring. I basically spent the whole time relaxing and watching The Real Housewives of Atlanta. I did work, but because I work at a golf course when it rains, we close. I only ended up working at the course half of the days I was scheduled to work due to being called off. Toledo, Ohio didn’t suffer any tornadoes, thankfully, but we did have some bad rainstorms throughout the week causing the course to flood. Luckily, I also work for my aunt’s locally owned business and coincidentally they had a lot of work to do that week and wanted my help. So, I still worked most of the time, just not where I thought I was going to be. Mike, aka, Golf Boss             On the plus side to being called off, I had time to hangout with some of my friends, including my friend Morgan, who I haven’t seen much since high school because of our busy lives and work schedules. We had SO much to catch up on with each other. I also saw my

Snapchat

Snapchat is a fun and interactive social media platform where users can send ‘snaps’, which are pictures that you can set a time limit for how long they are viewed, back and forth with one another. That’s not all though! Snapchat had added many features to the app since it was first launched in 2011 as ‘Picaboo’ and then revamped a few months after into what we know it as today. The platform allows users to post ‘snaps’ to their story that disappear after 24 hours, video chat and call with other users, play around with live filters, create group-chats, save snaps to your memories for later, and more.  The platform has over 750 million monthly active users, is the 10 th most popular social media platform, and has generated $4.6 billion in ad revenue. Its customer base is primary female, making up 51% while males account for 49% of the user population. The daily average for the app is only 21 minutes which surprised me at first because I would have assumed people spent m

Pre-Spring Break!

Twins x2!               As spring break approaches, I get more and more excited about a break from school. Sadly, I am not going on vacation anywhere, but I am working. I work as a bartender and beer cart girl at a golf course in my hometown. Normally the course is not open yet by this time but this year since the weather has been decently nice the course is open!             Many people don’t find their job fun, but I love mine and have fun every shift. I have worked at the golf course for many years – this year will be my seventh season. I started working there when I was 14 years old as a clubhouse assistant. Clubhouse assistants, or ‘juniors’ as we call them, basically just maintain the carts by washing, gassing and parking them and help keep the clubhouse clean and kept. When I turned 18, I was able to start beer carting and then the following year I began bartending as well. Me and My Favorite Leaguer!             I have made so many memories over the years and look forward

Twitter, Sorry...X

Image
X, previously known as Twitter, was originally created with the intent of being an SMS based communications platform where people can stay updated on each other’s lives by posting status updates. The app was first launched in 2006 and by 2012 it had grown to over 185 million users. Ten years later, Elon Musk bought the platform for $44 billion and in July of 2023 the site’s name was changed to X. Along with the name, Musk made other changes to the app including allowing the return of previously banned accounts. Musk makes it evident in the media that he is an advocate for free speech and wanted a platform that was a place for free commentary.                After deterring from the popularly known name, Twitter, to X there was an uproar of confusion among users. The features in the app coincided with the name and had an overall bird-theme to the entire outlet and so when the name was changed…did everything we know change? ‘Tweets’ are now simply posts or status updates and shares are n
